The 560 SEC was the S-Class with two doors and nothing to prove. Wind the windows down and there’s no pillar between the front and back glass, just one long, clean line. Under the bonnet, a 5.6-litre V8. In black, it’s the coupé every boss, banker and sheikh wanted parked outside.

In 1981, Mercedes gave the S-Class a two-door body and called it the SEC. It had no pillar behind the doors, and a robotic arm handed you the seatbelt when you closed the door. In 1985 came the 560 SEC, the top model, with a 5.6-litre V8. It was quiet, fast and built to last for decades. The S-Class coupé that defined the ’80s, now in 1:18. For the garage you’re building in scale.
